The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations systems designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action.
UNEP’s Division of Environmental Policy Implementation (DEPI) works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and advisory services for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. This position is located in DEPI, Freshwater and Terrestrial Ecosystems Branch, in the United Nations Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (UN-REDD) Secretariat located in Geneva. The UN-REDD Programme is a collaboration between the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and UNEP, that supports countries to develop capacity to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD) and to implement a future REDD mechanism in a post-2012 climate regime.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Head of the Secretariat, the incumbent will undertake the following tasks:
1. Be the focal point for the Policy Board Meetings and UN-REDD organized events, meetings and workshops.
2. Ensure that all documentation is sent out in accordance with the rules and procedures and that they are available on workspace; Develop and implement a documentation system for all UN-REDD reports and publications.
3. Provide administrative assistance to the staff members in the preparation of the Policy Board meetings including programme preparation, invitation of participants, liaising with FAO, UNEP, UNEP and the co-chairs in relation to the preparations.
4. Assist administrative staff in the preparation of tickets, Daily Subsistance Allowance and other financial and logistical requirements; Provide assistance during the events/meetings particularly on administrative matters and attend to logistical queries/requests.
5. Collaborate with implementing agencies on the details of the events including confirmation of participants, programme finalisation, coordination with moderators and related administrative requirements, participants and resource speakers.
6. Provide post-event services and assistance including tallying of actual costs and financial reports, actual number of participants, assessment of the events/meetings; Assist in the preparation of the end-of-events report; Provide timely feedback after each event on lessons learnt.
7. Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications
Education: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business, marketing, communication or related area. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience: A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in business, marketing, communication or related field. Experience in coordinating UN international events, meetings and workshops desirable. Familiarity with UN accounting rules and procedures an asset.
Languages: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
Other Skills: Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, email, internet) are required.
