Afghanaid, an international NGO operating in Afghanistan for the last 26 years, has a mandate to facilitate and support Afghan women and men and children in their fight against poverty, inequality and vulnerability.

Location: Afghanistan - Kabul, with frequent trips to the provinces

The Role: under the overall leadership of Managing Director and direct management of Deputy Managing Director (Programme) the incumbent will lead on development of a coherent strategy of Afghanaid to strengthen and scale up its work in this sector; be responsible for ensuring results oriented delivery of Afghanaid’s vision to create enabling environment for poor rural women and men in the programming areas of Afghanaid to become economically empowered with sustainable institutions and systems put in place for groups savings and internal lending, links with markets and micro-credit institutions established, and feasibility of sub-sectors conducted to make informed choices by, existing and potential, rural women and men producers and entrepreneurs resulting in to improved household food security, cash income, and overall well being status of the family and communities.

Competencies & Skills: Postgraduate degree preferably in Development Studies, Enterprise Development from a reputable international university with 5 years of experience at senior level; of which at least 3 years in international aid sector. You will also have sector specific diploma or similar course from a recognized institute. Candidates with work experience in Afghanistan or in a similar context will have an advantage. You will bring excellent conceptual understanding and hands-on experience of poverty and vulnerability reduction approaches; engagement with markets and development of private sector; will have track record as an advocate to protect rights and entitlements of small producers, including women, with markets, local leadership and governments; will have knowledge and proven skills in programme design and proposal writing; highly developed analytical competencies including conducting assessments and research through secondary sources to design new programmes; and in-depth experience of all stages of project cycle management. You will have proven ability to deal with challenging work situations and be willing to travel, live and work in isolated and remote areas. You will show demonstrative evidence of having achieved success in mentoring, coaching and facilitating the learning of national staff; have highly developed spoken and written communications skills in English and preferably in Dari; and be computer literate in word processing, excel, and designing of databases to track financial aspect of your work (tracking growth of capital, budgeting and budget monitoring, business plans assessment, etc.). You will be competent to work with significant level of autonomy, take initiative, be able to meet tight deadlines under pressure, and deliver high quality results. You must show respect for local culture and religion, self motivation and knowledge of personal strengths and weaknesses.
