(CLOSED) Dispensary Nurse

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
UN field personnel are exposed to various health and security hazards that may result in psychological trauma and life threatening injuries. Dedicated, effective emergency medical services may mitigate negative outcomes of trauma, injuries and complications providing better chances for saving lives as well as for faster and better recovery.

Functions / Key Results Expected

Under the overall management of Head of Sub Office and direct supervision of the UN Dispensary Physician, the UN Dispensary Nurse will:

- Attend the UN Dispensary on a full time basis;
- Be on call during and outside office hours whenever necessary, including field trips in response to Medical Emergencies both in the UN Dispensary and in the field;
- Promote health among personnel from UNDP and other Agencies by assisting the UN Dispensary Physician with vaccination programmes, counseling on prophylaxis against tropical diseases (when applicable) and Sexually Transmitted Diseases;
- Maintain the UN Dispensary in good order and keep the inventory of Medical supplies and equipment up to date;
- In consultation with UN Dispensary Physician, maintain a 24 hour roster of available specialist for referrals and treatment;
- Co- ordinate the work of the rest of the UN Dispensary Personnel;
- Give first aid and advice to the staff and their recognized dependents;
- Administer outpatient/inpatient treatment and immunization.
- Administration of parenteral injections, vaccinations, IV Fluids and instructing the dosage of the oral medications.
- Regulate the inflow of the out patients in an orderly manner
- Ensure an absolute Smoke Free and relative silence within the Dispensary environs;
- Assist the UN Dispensary Physician when official Medical Examinations are undertaken at the UN Dispensary;
- Assist in maintaining records of all patients (visits and treatment) as well as records of all Medical Supplies in the UN Dispensary or facilities established outside of the UN Dispensary;
- Assist the UN Dispensary Physician to perform the duties described in the “Standard Post Description for UN Dispensary Physician”
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding patients’ Medical Records.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the UN Dispensary Physician.

Terms of Service

This is a non-staff contract under the Service Contract modality of hiring of the UNDP. Individuals engaged under a Service Contract serve in their individual capacity and not as representative of a government institutions, corporate body or other authority external to UNDP. The incumbent shall not be considered as staff of UNDP, the UN common system or the government and are therefore not entitled to any diplomatic privileges or any other special status or conditions.

Recruitment Qualifications

Education:

- Nursing Degree/Diploma from a recognized University.

Experience:

- Minimum of 4-5 years of Clinical work experience with experience in Trauma and Emergency care.
- Experience in Tropical Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Common Medical Laboratory investigations.
- Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc) is desirable

Language Requirements:

- Fluency in English and Somali.
