Programme Manager, Peace & Justice

Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Deutschland e.V (ASB), a registered INGO, has been working in Sri Lanka since 2003 with offices now in the Eastern, Northern and Southern Provinces. ASB’s Peace & Justice Programme (PJP) currently implements community peacebuilding and advice service projects in Ampara and Batticaloa Districts. In July the programme was extended to the Galle, Hambantota, Matara , and Trincomalee Districts. The main purpose of the programme is to empower individuals and groups to bring about a peace-ful and just Sri Lanka. ASB has recently received funding until mid 2012.

Location: Sri Lanka - Eastern Province

Duties and Responsibilities
- Reporting to ASB’s Country Director for Sri lanka
- Provide strategic vision, technical input and advice for PJP
- Recruitment and management of staff (field staff and centre coordinators) including staff development and evaluations
- Managing PJP across six Districts now and in such other places as shall be agreed with the Country Diretcor in the future
- Managing budgets with the head office and programme accounts team
- Managing work plans for the PJP team and for ASB’s partners
- Overseeing training and mcntoring of the PJP team’s activities both in and out of the field so as to develop the ethos and methodologies that enable the team to carry out their work effectively
- Preparing written guidelines for guidance for the PJP team from time to time to enable team members to carry out their work effectively with a non-violent ethos
- Responsible for planning and co-ordinating own case load and responsibilities
- Building strong professional relationships with government, NGOs and funders to de-velop the work and profile of PJP
- Developing new projects and securing appropriate fund raising for these and the con-tinuation of existing projects
- Holding regular team and evalution meetings and discussions

We expect the successful applicant to:
1. Have at least three years senior experience of managing a peace & justice programme across several districts.
2. Have a proven track record in designing peace & justice projects, fund raising and lias-ing with donors.
3.Have the experience and ability to manage, motivate and support people sensitively and without judgement.
4. Be able to work easily to serve, rather than direct, the wishes of team members
5. Be able to to plan and manage a complex and busy workload
6. Be fluent in written and spoken English and ideally in Sinhala and/or Tamil as well.
7. Be prepared for their beliefs and behaviour to be challenged and often changed through their work.
8. Be committed to working as a team with a diverse age, ethnic and gender mix and to travel and work in remote areas as and when required
9. Have IT skills including the use of MS Office.
