Location: occupied Palestinian territory - Ramallah
The Bureau for Institutional Reform and Democracy (BiRD) is looking for one Arabic speaking senior expert in juvenile justice for a short-term mission in West Bank and Gaza Strip.
Programme: Lot 7 - A study of juvenile justice in the occupied Palestinian Territories
Project duration: 72 working days
Location: mostly in Ramallah, with frequent travel to the surrounding governorates.
Description of the assignemnt:
General objective
To contribute to the enhancement of the rule of law and adherence to national and international standards of fair trial and treatment of children by providing a baseline, comprehensive assessment of the structures and the needs of the relevant authorities that are involved in the juvenile justice system in the occupied Palestinian territory.
Profile Required
At least one senior expert with the following qualifications:
- Masters’ degree in social studies, law or a related field;
- At least ten years of professional experience in juvenile justice institutions or juvenile justice issues;
- Previous experience in writing technical assessment reports, as well as in drafting project proposals/project identification fiches;
- Excellent interpersonal and co-ordination skills;
- Proven analytical skills;
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information;
- Ability to work under pressure and to meet strict deadlines;
- Ability to exercise sound judgement, diplomacy and tact;
- Previous working experience in the region of at least three years;
- Knowledge of the local applicable legislation;
- Fluent in written and spoken English and Arabic.

All reports shall be submitted in Arabic and English. Especially for the final report and analytical documents, translation services may be used.
