CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation is one of the leading and most diverse international civil society networks, with members and partners in more than 100 countries and a staff of 40 people from over 20 countries. It implements a range of programmatic activities focusing on strengthening civil society and its role in governance and development worldwide. It also serves as a convener of global civil society leaders through its annual World Assembly.

The CIVICUS Legitimacy, Transparency and Accountability (LTA) Programme is committed to the improvement of legitimacy, transparency and accountability of civil society organisations (CSOs) by trying to sensitise them to the LTA issues and enable them to gain access to resources to address them. The programme builds on CIVICUS efforts to strengthen good practice within civil society by promoting new, more participative and accountable models of governance and partnership.

CIVICUS is looking to increase its capacities within the programme and is therefore seeking to recruit a Senior Programme Officer to organise and implement the overall activities of and support the LTA programme management in human resource, finance and other departmental responsibilities; to provide support in LTA programme development and to work on the content development and maintenance of an on-line LTA resource centre (website) and the facilitation of LTA’s communities of practice.

The ideal candidate should have the following skills, experience and knowledge:
  • A post graduate degree in Political Science, Sociology, Development Studies or related field;
  • At least 5 years of work experience working, preferably in programme or organisation-wide management;
  • Work knowledge and experience related to legitimacy, transparency and accountability issues of organisations. Experience and knowledge in good governance and corporate social responsibility is also recognised;
  • Work knowledge and experience in the outreach and communication of a topic;
  • Ability to communicate and advise other CIVICUS programmes about issues relating to legitimacy, transparency and accountability;
  • Experience with human resources and financial planning;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Proven ability to develop and sustain good relationships key stakeholders;
  • Ability to work effectively and independently in a large multi-cultural team and in fast-paced environment;
  • Experience in website maintenance and the use of Content Management Systems (CMS);
  • Ability to work in a high-paced environment and under tight deadlines.

Start date: as soon as possible
Duration: initially a 2 year contract will be offered.
Salary offered: USD$ 35 328.19 per annum
