Landmine Action is a UK-based non-governmental organisation working to reduce the incidence and impact of armed violence around the world. Our work covers research and policy, and field-based programmes. Our field operations are currently focused in West Africa, primarily in Liberia and Western Sahara.

Purpose of the job: To lead management of existing operational programmes and support development of new programme work
Main Responsibilities
- Set strategic goals for operational programme projects, country programmes, and overall scale of development in collaboration with the CEO and the Senior Management Team (SMT);
- Contribute to the Senior Management Team in the overall direction and management of Landmine Action;
- Direct and support the operation and development of country programmes, in line with agreed strategic aims;
- Manage the operational staff of Landmine Action, ensuring capacity-building and training where required;
- Ensure funding for the operational programme by engaging with existing donors and identifying, establishing contact with, and generating new funding commitments from new donors;
- In collaboration with SMT, desk officers and country programme managers, undertake field monitoring visits to ensure delivery of high quality programmes;
- In collaboration with the Finance Director, review monthly programme expenditure and ensure programmes work within budget;
- Ensure Landmine Action’s operational work is operating to a high standard of quality, legally and safely.
Person Specification
Candidates will be able to demonstrate the following experience:
1. 5-7 years directing and managing multiple operational programmes with international organisations (UN or NGO);
2. Technical experience in humanitarian mine action and/or at least one of the following: peacekeeping, post-conflict reconstruction, or armed violence reduction sectors;
3. Ability to develop and diversify new programmes and to manage programme growth;
4. Managing and supporting desk officers in programme support and grant management;
5. Directing, at distance, multiple country programmes;
6. Developing programmatic systems and procedures;
7. Successfully raising significant grant money from a broad range of institutional donors;
8. Working strategically within a senior management team;
9. Working in and with diverse cultures.
Desirable experience.
10. High-level representational work with senior civil servants, international organisation partners and donors.
Candidates will possess the following skills and personal qualities:

20. A UK work permit.
