The Environmental Health Manager will implement an emergency Environmental Health WASH project in the Somali region of Ethiopia
Responsibilities:
Environemtal Health Project Implementation and Management
- Prepare or review all water & sanitation technical designs & BoQs, including electromechanical equipment specifications. Technical activities include borehole drilling, hand dug wells, ponds, rainwater harvesting, haffir dams and latrines.
- Further develop existing hygiene promotion and participation activities in both local communities and the refugee camp
- Ensure that community O&M mechanics, water committees, village volunteer hygiene promoter are identified and trained to effectively carry out their roles in implementation and sustainability of water, sanitation and hygiene promotion projects
- Prepare monthly field reports incorporating activity and financial progress for all EH projects in Somali region
- Prepare draft quarterly donor and government reports in collaboration with HQ staff
- Prepare technical descriptions with budget for implementation of water, sanitation & hygiene activities in new proposals.
This position reports to the EH Coordinator and manages 12 direct reports.
Requirements
Essential
- BSc in Water Resources Engineering or similar field.
- Minimum 4 years of EH (WASH, Watsan) experience with an NGO
- Proven practical experience in EH project implementation, including engineering activities and M&E
- Comfortable to work in an insecure & remote environment
- Ability to work and adapt under pressure.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Computer literate (word processors, spreadsheet, database, CAD and statistical packages, etc)
Desirable
- Previous practical emergency response experience
- Previous practical hygiene promotion experience
- Previous practical community participation experience
- Previous recruitment, performance monitoring and team training experience
- Previous proposal development experience (including logframes), and M&E
- Previous experience of population-based KPC survey design & implementation
- Previous experience of qualitative assessment
