Location: Kenya - Lodwar
Solidarités is a French humanitarian NGO, working in 13 countries worldwide in order to bring humanitarian assistance to vulnerable populations. For over 25 years, the association has concentrated its action on meeting three vital needs - water, food and shelter - by carrying out emergency programs followed by reconstruction projects.
Context
The joint Kenya / Somalia mission is relatively young (started in march 2007) and includes 2 projects in South Somalia, and 3 projects in Kenya. In Kenya, SOLIDARITES has one project in North Horr, and another one in Nairobi’s slums and is starting a new project in Turkana Central.
All these projects focus on Water and Sanitation and Food Security, whether in an emergency context or a recovery context. In Somalia, SOLIDARITES has one project in Bardera district / Gedo and another one in Afmadow district / Lower Juba.
Objectives of the program in Turkana Central district, Kerio division
- Improve quantity and quality of water for both human and animal consumption in Turkana Central district, Kerio division
- Improve Sanitary conditions and hygiene practices
- Ensure food security for 15 000 direct beneficiaries (2 500 households) in Turkana Central district, Kerio division
- Improve the management of natural resources in Turkana Central district.
Objectives of this position
The Field Coordinator is the responsible of the overall conduct of the program in each and all of its components : representation, management, activities, needs evaluation, logistics, security management and administration.
Particularly, the Field Coordinator will be responsible of the opening of this new project. He manages his team to achieve the humanitarian objectives as defined per the proposal and according to Solidarités principles. The Field Coordinator is under the responsibility of the Country Director.
Tasks of this position
- Organize the planning and supervision of the work
- Ensure that performance evaluations are conducted regularly and job descriptions are relevant and updated for the staff under his responsibility.
- Recruit the staff necessary to the project’s implementation according to Solidarités guidelines.
- Insure the respect of Solidarités rules and regulations for the national staff and ensure Kenyan Labor Laws are respected.
- Responsible of the finances and of the administration in coordination with the Administrator / Logistician
- Responsible of the logistics in coordination with the Administrator / Logistician
- Responsible of the progress and of the quality of the program
- Responsible of the relevance of the activities regarding the humanitarian needs of the populations
- Participate constantly to the gathering of information about the context of the mission, incidents, political changes or any information related to security and report it to the Program Manager.
- Responsible for all representation purposes toward local authorities and communities and make sure good relations are maintained
- Responsible of the good links and appropriate coordination / validation with the Kenyan Auhtorities
Profil
- Expériences : Education - Minimum Bachelor or equivalent in a degree relevant with Humanitarian actions (Project management, watsan, livestock…), generalist approach. Experience - At least 2 years of experience in a senior equivalent management position with NGOs - At least 5 years of experience in project implementation with NGOs - At least 1 year of field experience with NGOs in conflict areas - Previous experience in dealing with Drought Preparedness projects
- Languages: English (working language) : fluent with excellent writing capacities - French is a clear advantage - Kiswahili remains desirable skills

Mission's length: 12 months, starting ASAP
STATUS : Salaried contract
SOLIDARITES will pay for accommodation and travel expenses from the expatriate’s country of origin to the site of the assignment Depending on the assignment, volunteers receive each month on the premises a 400 to 500 euros amount in order to meet food and other expenses Social and medical cover: Expatriates are on welfare which reimburses all healthcare expenses (medical and surgical expenses, dental care and ophthalmological expenses, repatriation) and a welfare system including war risks. Necessary vaccination and antimalarial treatment costs are refunded. Vacation: During the assignment, a system of alternation between work and time off is implemented: SOLIDARITES impose breaks between two working periods. One break every three months. For a one year duration assignment, the expatriate will have a break during the 3rd and the 9th month after the beginning of the assignment (with a 500 euros amount deposited by Solidarités). He/She will also be entitled to go back to France for a 15 day period after six months spent on the mission (Solidarités will pay for travel costs)
