Abt Associates, Inc. works in partnership with private sector entities, the Federal Ministry of Health and Regional Health Bureaux in Ethiopia to increase public awareness and access for at-risk individuals to HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis prevention, diagnosis and treatment services. With funding from USAID and the US President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), interventions to strengthen the private health sector will be expanded in geographic scope and content over the next five years. The Private Health Sector Program will expand access to affordable packages of essential, quality health services through private health care providers, and will be carried out in close collaboration with Abt's Health Sector Financing Reform Project (also funded by USAID), as well as other US and donor-supported initiatives in the Ethiopian health sector.
Abt Associates, Inc. is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Chief of Party (CoP) for the Private Sector Health Program.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Provides strategic direction and technical leadership to produce project results, as well as overall management of the operational, financial, and administrative aspects of the project.
- Assures articulation of strategic vision to staff, partners, and USAID, aligning those individuals and others in support of the vision.
- Assures that the full potential of the program is realized through the promotion of high quality work and internal control.
- Translates project goals and objectives into implementable strategies and plans.
- Provides strong technical and managerial leadership across project activities.
- Focuses the activity of the team in areas that are critical for success.
- Scans the environment and taking leadership actions to maximuze opportunities and to strengthen partnerships and alliances.
- Promotes teamwork and collaboration across the project and with counterparts in public and private sectors.
- Clarifies roles, delegating responsibilities to senior staff, communication expectations for work and contribution to project activities.
- Maintains productive working relationships with key USAID clients and project counterparts, and reports to the Portfolio Manager in Abt Associates' home office.
- Represents Abt Associates' corporate interests in country.
Skills:
- Minimum 13-15 years experience supervising public health programs in developing countries, preferably in the area of private health sector service delivery.
- MD and/or MPH degree.
- Experience in Ethiopia and fluency in a local language are strongly desired.
- Demonstrated leadership in management skills and ability to lead multidisciplinary teams
- Abtility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with USAID, ministry officials, public, private partners, and other development partners.
- Experience developing project vision, aligning key stakeholders around that vision, and assuring that the vision is translated into implementable strategies.
- Ability to develop consensus among stakeholders and to assure effective collaboration among development partners.
- Demonstrated ability to assure that individuals and teams adhere to the highest standards of quality, relevance, and timeliness.
