(CLOSED) Senior Associate/Scientist - Advisor for Laboratory Services

Abt Associates, Inc. works in partnership with private sector entities, the Federal Ministry of Health and Regional Health Bureaux in Ethiopia to increase public awareness and access for at-risk individuals to HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis prevention, diagnosis and treatment services. With funding from USAID and the US President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), interventions to strengthen the private health sector will be expanded in geographic scope and content over the next five years. The Private Health Sector Program will expand access to affordable packages of essential, quality health services through private health care providers, and will be carried out in close collaboration with Abt's Health Sector Financing Reform Project

Abt Associates, Inc. is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Advisor, Laboratory Services for the Private Sector Health program.

Specific responsibilities include:
- Ensures international best practices in lab services and External Quality Assurance
- Guides the training and oversight for lab personnel through the program.
- Works closely with the Federal Ministry of Health to ensure adherence among private laboratories to Ethiopian standards for diagnosis and treatment of HIV/AIDS, TB and sexually transmitted infections
- Promotes introduction of proven best practices into education for laboratory technicians.
- Expand technical capacity in TB, HIV and STIs laboratory diagnostics and treatment.
- Strengthen service agreements with private providers and GOE/local authorities, specifically in the area of test kits and laboratory reagents/supplies.
- Focus on infection prevention and control in private clinics.

Skills:
- Masters Degree or PhD in laboratory technology, or related field.
- Ten years experience in laboratory quality assurance/quality contnrol in clinical laboratories practices.
- Experience in TB and HIV services, including antiretroviral therapy monitoring and supply chain management preferred.
- Experience on a USAID-funded development activity highly desirable.
- Capacity to work in a diversified cultural and professional environment.
- Fluency in English, fluency in Amharic language desirable.
- Willingness to travel within the country and capacity to deliver under stressful environment.
