Location: Georgia - Shida Kartli Region
The OSCE Mission to Georgia intends to complete a comprehensive assessment of the infrastructural and technological requirements to supply irrigation water for up to 32,000 hectares of land in the Shida Kartli region of Georgia. The OSCE Mission to Georgia is looking for international experts to evaluate the current state of the existing irrigation networks in the Shida Kartli region and in turn, jointly design cost-effective plans to rehabilitate and/or expand the existing irrigation networks.
Duration of assignment: 20 - 30 working days (October - November 2008)
A summary of the duties of the Irrigation Network Construction Experts are, as follows:
(1) Assess the current state of the Karbi Headwork, Pkhvenisi Headwork, Tiriphoni Canal and its branches, Saltvisi Canal and its branches, Lake Nadarbazevi Reservoir, and existing wells for irrigation within the Shida Kartli region;
(2) Prepare feasible and cost-effective proposals to rehabilitate and/or expand the abovementioned existing irrigation networks, and/or prepare alternative proposals to introduce new irrigation networks to ensure a sufficient supply of water is accessible to the maximum area of land in Shida Kartli region throughout the year; and
(3) Include in the proposals technical specifications and cost estimates for the rehabilitation and/or extension of the existing irrigation networks and/or the construction of new networks in the Shida Kartli region.
Necessary qualifications:
- Degree in irrigation engineering or related field;
- Prior experience in designing and/or implementing irrigation projects in transitional economies, particularly in the Caucasus;
- Fluent spoken and written English;
- Knowledge of Russian and/or Georgian languages would be an asset.
