DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the general direction of the Executive Secretary of ECLAC, the incumbent is responsible for the overall supervision and direction of the Population Division (CELADE) in Santiago. He/she oversees the formulation and execution of the work programme of CELADE, covering Latin America and the Caribbean; orients and monitors substantive activities of the Population Division; he/she establishes and maintains relations with national and international institutions; acts as adviser to the Executive Secretary of ECLAC and performs any other assignment requested by the Executive Secretary of ECLAC, including representation of the Commission at high level population meetings.

COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

Advanced university degree with specialization in Demography or a related field in the Social and Behavioural Sciences programmes. 18 to 22 years of professional experience in conducting research, technical assistance, teaching or administering projects in social sciences, preferably related to Latin America and the Caribbean. Supervisory experience is also required.

LANGUAGES:

Fluency in Spanish and English is essential. Working knowledge of French would be an asset.
