SC UK has worked in Sudan - both north and south - since the 1950s. The programme seeks a balance between emergency and long-term development and between work with the displaced and host communities.
Due to the current emergency in Darfur, SC UK Sudan programme is expanding its programme in North Darfur, and has recently started a new emergency response in the conflict affected areas of South Darfur, out of Nyala. Therefore, the need has arisen for an experienced logistician to co-ordinate the logistical systems throughout SCUK Sudan programme from the Headquarters in Khartoum. Your other key areas of responsibility will include:
- Managing the logistics team in Khartoum and co-ordinating the logisticians throughout the SCUK Sudan Programme.
- Reviewing and if necessary, designing a suitably staffed and clear logistic structure to support the SCUK Sudan operations and policies.
- Recruiting, training and supporting locally hired logisticians and support staff.
- Accountability for the supply and logistics support to SCUK operation in Darfur, including the procurement, receipt, storage and issue of supplies and equipment.
- Management of SCUK Sudan communications systems HF VHF and ensure that appropriate communications equipment is procured and installed.
- Compiling budgets to support the logistical requirements and producing routine financial commitment projections.
- Developing and implementing routine and emergency security measures.
To fulfil this challenging role you will have at least 3 years experience in overseas humanitarian logistics ‘start up’ programmes, or large multi-site logistic operation.
You will have solid knowledge and understanding of practical logistic procedures and maintaining supply pipelines in areas of weak or no existing infrastructure.
You will be experienced in training and developing both national and international staff in logistics and administrative skills. It is essential that you are fluent in written and spoken English with excellent communication skills.
Experience of having worked in an area of conflict, together with a willingness to travel within Sudan is essential.
