Editor, Global Corruption Report.

Starting date: 1 May 2004

Transparency International (TI), the leading anti-corruption NGO, is seeking an Editor to join the team that produces the Global Corruption Report (GCR), starting in May 2004. The position is initially on an 8-month contract, which may be extended, depending on performance and available funding. The GCR, which provides an annual assessment of the state of corruption around the world, is TI's flagship publication. The Editor may also be asked to work on other TI publications. The position is based at TI's Secretariat in Berlin, Germany.

The Editor's primary tasks will be:
  • Commissioning writers
  • Editing, including re-writing contributions
  • Liaising with authors, referees and fact-checkers
  • Providing ideas for content for future issues of the GCR
  • Assisting with the publication process

In addition, the Editor may be involved in secondary tasks such as:
  • Editing text for web-pages for both the GCR and other TI projects
  • Representing TI and promoting the GCR at conferences
  • Assisting with distribution of the GCR
  • Analysing research materials
  • General project management tasks

Qualifications for the position include:
  • Minimum 3 years' work experience as an editor, preferably for publications with an international policy focus. Significant re-writing/sub-editing experience would be an advantage
  • Experience of commissioning writers
  • Experience of managing publications is preferred
  • Native English speaker; additional language skills are desirable
  • Demonstrated knowledge of - or experience in - corruption and good governance, comparative politics, international or development economics, international law or a related social science discipline

The appointment would be at Project Officer level, with a salary in the range from €30,000 to €36,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
