Job context:

HI has a 2 years project agreement with a local partner. The purpose is to build the capacity of intermediary rehabilitation services to ensure the provision of sustainable, appropriate, quality and financially accessible physiotherapy and orthopaedic appliances for people with disabilities in the earthquake areas of Gujarat.

The partner's workshop has 1 P&O (prosthesis and orthosis) technician, 2 technical assistants and 1 administrative assistant. HI has one national P&O technician placed in the workshop to build the capacity of workshop technicians.

Job description:

A/ To build the capacity of the HI technician to :
1. Provide training to the partner workshop's technicians in quality production throughout all phases of the manufacturing process.
2. Ensure the application of a range of appropriate technologies that suit the physical, social and economic, needs of the people with disabilities.
3. To enhance managerial ability of P&O technicians to improve the quality and efficiency of workshop services at the workshop (stock control, client circuit etc) .
4. Devise a training plan for the technical assistants and enhance the P&O technicians' capacity in training technical assistants.
5. Devise a training plan for the P&O technicians to be followed after the departure of the expatriate resource person.

B/ To build the capacity of one of the regional technical staff to :
Monitor the activities of the workshop; notably in the area of prosthetic manufacture

Applicant profile:

- Bachelor Degree in prosthetics/orthotics, with expertise in prosthesis (exo and endoskeletal)
- Experience in training of trainers (TOT)
- Very Good spoken and written English
- Preferably experience/ exposure to working in Asia
- Good skills in organisation, co-ordination and the transfer of knowledge are essential. The person must be able to work independently and without constant supervision. Excellent communication skills and a commitment to team work are essential to ensure cohesion with other programme and partner staff. The Person must be able to function effectively in difficult living conditions and with limited access to social activities.
