Learning from Kosovo: The Humanitarian Community Information Centre (HCIC), Year One

This article reviews the Humanitarian Community Information Centre (HCIC) set up to provide information services to support the humanitarian effort following the mass return of Albanian refugees to Kosovo in June 1999.

Cited by the Brahimi report on UN peace operations as an example of the practical application of information technology in supporting humanitarian coordination, the article argues that the most important lesson learned by the HCIC is that effective coordination of humanitarian work is greatly aided by effective information management, both within and between organisations.
