Children, Education and War: Reaching Education For All Objectives in Countries Affected by Conflict

This paper considers the effect of conflict on the ability of war-torn countries to reach the Education for All goals declared at the World Education Forum in Dakar, Senegal in April 2000. For this purpose, the paper considers:

• The impact of war on children and education systems
• Programs and policies to help war affected countries reach EFA objectives
• The role of international actors to support the process

Once the impact of war on children and education systems is reviewed, the scope of the problem is considered, and current trends and lessons that have been learned are highlighted. In addition, the paper offers a set of conclusions and recommendations to help children in war-torn countries complete their primary school education.
