Brazil: Floods and Landslides - Dec 2010

Disaster description

More than 20, 000 people have evacuated their homes due to heavy rains that have fallen over the last 4 days, affecting the south of Brazil and causing 11 deaths. The most affected states are Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Parana and Rio Grande do Sul. The rains are forecasted to continue and authorities expect the situation to worsen. In January, Rio de Janiero was affected by floods and slides leaving more than 1000 dead or missing(OCHA, 14 March 2011).
