Indonesia: Papua - Sulawesi Earthquakes - Jun 2010

Disaster description

A power string of six earthquakes shook the northern coast of Indonesia’s Papua province on 16 June 2010 (CNN, 16 Jun 2010). Yapen Island, with a population of about 70,000 people, was severely affected with one church destroyed and at least 150 homes damaged. (ABC, 16 Jun 2010) The largest quake had a magnitude of 7.1 and a depth of 10km. (OCHA, 22 Jun 2010)

At least seventeen people were killed, with 10,000 displaced, and 2,556 buildings were damaged or destroyed in Yapen. (US Geological Survey, 6 Aug 2010)
