Angola: Third Polio vaccination campaign in December

Luanda, 11/22 - The third phase of the nationwide campaign against poliomyelitis, expected to vaccinate 5.5 million children, under five years of age, is scheduled for December 2-4 2006.

According to the Immunisation Department official, Alda Morais, this time, all children between the age of six months and up to five will get doses of vitamin "A".

Under the third phase, house to house mobile teams will actively search for cases of acute flaccid paralysis for more detailed studies on eventual situations of poliomyelitis.

For the success of the campaign, Alda de Morais urged parents to massively participate, with a view to the eradication of poliomyelitis, a disease that cripples many children around the world.

The second phase took place last September and vaccinated 5.6 million children.

The latest case of polio was reported in June, 2006, in southern Huila province.
