Latvia considers deployment of peacekeepers in Georgia possible

Visiting Latvian President Vaira Vike-Freiberga did not rule out the possibility of deployment of Latvian peacekeeping troops in the Abkhaz and South Ossetian conflict zones.

"I would not be against if Latvia, as a NATO member state, participates in the peacekeeping process, moreover when Latvia has great experience of participating in peacekeeping operation in Afghanistan and Iraq," the Latvian President said at a joint news briefing with President Saakashvili in Tbilisi on October 5.

Within the frames of a three day official visit the Latvian President has already signed several agreements, including that on resumption of direct flights between the capitals - Tbilisi and Riga.

The two Presidents also participated in a joint Georgian-Latvian business forum on October 5.
