Serbia and Romania to repair flooded areas together

Belgrade, May 11, 2005 - Romanian President Traian Basescu met today at the Presidential Palace in Bucharest with Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica, who is in the capital attending the 8th summit of heads of states and governments of the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP). The two officials reaffirmed traditionally friendly relations between the two countries and voiced readiness to join forces in the cleanup from floods affecting both countries.

During the meeting, Kostunica pointed to problems in Kosovo-Metohija, especially to the difficult position of a Serbian population deprived of basic human rights.

The Serbian Prime Minister stated that a careful assessment of standards in Kosovo-Metohija must be carried out and that a solution must include compromises to and respect for both sides, in which there will be no absolute winner or loser.

Kostunica concluded that the best and most acceptable solution for Kosovo-Metohija is maximum autonomy for the province within the existing borders of the Republic of Serbia and the state union of Serbia-Montenegro.
