OPT: Israeli-Palestinian conflicts mount in Gaza

GAZA, Feb 6, 2008 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Several Gaza militant groups resumed their attacks on Israel by rockets and mortar shells on Wednesday, one day after Israel struck a Hamas-police base in southern Gaza Strip, which killed eight people.

In retaliation to the killing of eight Hamas-police men in Gaza, Hamas armed wing, al-Qassam Brigades, launched a series of attacks on Israeli communities and towns near the Gaza Strip, the group said in leaflets.

"Today's attacks are a response to the awful Zionist massacres and against the unfair siege imposed on our people," said the leaflets.

M'aweya Hassanein, chief of emergency and ambulance service in the Palestinian Ministry of Health, confirmed that a Hamas militant was critically wounded by an Israeli airstrike as a group of militants were trying to launch homemade rockets from northern Gaza Strip at Israel.

On Tuesday, Israeli forces launched an airstrike on Hamas- police base east of the southern Gaza Strip town of Khan Younis in response to a Hamas attack at a commercial center in the southern Israeli town of Dimona on Monday.
