Sri Lanka: The inaugural ceremony of the temporary residences at Amparai

The TRO had initiated a construction program of temporary residences for victims of the 26.12.2004 Tsunami tidal wave disaster.

In accordance with this program the TRO has been handing over temporary houses in some of eight places it had selected for this purpose.

Of these the Chenai-Kudyurrupu Inhabitation project had been completed, and the inaugural ceremony of handing over these habitations was performed at 4.30 pomp on 14.03.2005 under the auspices of the Administrative office of the TRO Mr.V.Rajendran. The Alumnae District secretary, Mr. Vasudevan, the Gram Savakis, Mr. Adularia, and Mr.S.Mohan, representatives of NGOs, and the general public attended on this occasion.

After the auspices lamps were lit and a prayer sung. The first house was handed over by Mr.Vasudevan and the second by the Engineer of the TRO, Mr.Sivarasa.

Speaking on the occasion, the representative of TRO, Mr.Karunakaran, reiterated that the TRO had shouldered such work on many occasions earlier. He also stated the TRO never hesitated to undertake such Rehabilitation projects.

In his speech the District Secretary also praised the TRO, saying that it had served with great effort and had done more than expected by the government or expected by the general public. Continuing, he emphasized that the world at large should acknowledge this and expressed gratitude for the timely response the TRO has offered on these occasions.
