Singapore contributes to relief efforts in the Peru earthquake

Singapore Red Cross is in correspondance with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Cresent Societies (IFRC) and is monitoring the situation.

SRC will not be soliciting for public funds at this juncture.

However, it will still be accepting donations should the public wish to make their donations through SRC.

Information on the humanitarian assistance rendered by the national societies of the affected countries, with the support from IFRC.

Peru Earthquake (US30,000)

The earthquake measuring 7.9 hit Peru on 15 Aug, devastating the coastal areas. The regions affected by the earthquake include Ica, Lima, Junin, Ayacucho, Huancavelica and La Libertad. The worst affected region is Ica, with close to 32,310 families affected by the earthquake.

Action by the Peruvian Red Cross (PRC) and IFRC

- With the support from the IFRC, PRC has deployed volunteers to the fields to conduct needs assessments in the affected areas, render search and rescue and distribution of relief items.

- The distribution of relief items includes tents, blankets, plastic sheeting, radio telecommunications kits and hygiene kits.
