Sri Lanka: Red Cross hands over 109 houses to tsunami affected people in Trincomalee district

109 tsunami affected families in Trincomalee District received permanent houses constructed in two villages Sumedankarapura and Thamaravil 24th of June 2007. These 109 houses were built with the financial support from Japanese Red Cross Society. The families have been provided with common amenities such as drinking water, access roads, electricity, and sanitation facilities.

The Sumedankarapura Housing Scheme which consists of 71 houses was declared open by the Coordinating Secretary, Parliamentary Affairs to HE President, Mr. Kumarasi Hettige. Hony. President of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society Jagath Abeysinghe, Hony. National Secretary Mr. S H Nimal Kumar, Head of Delegate of Japanese Red Cross Mr. Satoshi Funahashi, Hony Chairman Trincomalee SLRCS branch Dr. E G Gnanakunalan. and Chairman Moment Task ForceS Mr. Tissa Abeywickrama were present at the opening ceremony.

38 houses in Thamarvil Housing Scheme in Kinniya Tricomalee District were handed over to beneficiaries on the same day. The handing over ceremony was attended by Head of delegate of Japanese Red Cross Mr. Satoshi Funahashi and the Chairman Trincomalee SLRCS branch Dr. E G Gnanakunalan.
