Don Muang to be used as center for Myanmar relief efforts

Minister of Foreign Affairs Noppadol Pattama stated that Thailand was contacted by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon to open itself up as a center for relief efforts to Myanmar. He asked that Thailand be the headquarters to receive foreign aid aimed towards Myanmar, which Thailand has agreed to.

The nation will use cargo hangars located at Don Muan airport to amass all donations. A special ASEAN summit to discuss aid to Myanmar will also take place today. Thailand plans to propose an ASEAN medical team travel to the cyclone hit nation to help rescue efforts. Myanmar itself has requested environmental workers to help restore the nations devastated natural resources, which Thailand has complied to.

Nonetheless, a request for Thailand to host a meeting between the ASEAN and the UN will be taken into consideration during today's emergency summit.
