(A) Highlights

(a) In Sudan, between the 1st and 20th of February, WFP dispatched a total of 32,120 tons of food from logistical hubs to the Darfur region.

(b) WFP's Executive Board has approved a new food aid programme for Angola. The new operation is scheduled to start in April 2006 and end in March 2009.

(c) In Pakistan, despite the grounding of UN flights, WFP has dispatched 14,025 tons and reached a total caseload of 873,837 beneficiaries, 88 percent of total requirement for February.

(d) In Chad, the General Food Distributions for the month of February has been completed in all the camps except for Am Nabak, where distribution was temporarily suspended due to security concerns.

(e) The refugee operation in western Tanzania may be affected by the ongoing drought in eastern Africa.

(f) The Government of Burundi declared the five hunger-affected provinces of Kirundo, Muyinga, Ruyigi, Cankuzo and Rutana as disaster zones.

(g) WFP advocacy and sensitisation campaigns in preparation of relief distributions have just been completed in Lower Juba, Middle Juba, Bay and Bakol regions of Somalia.
