Sri Lanka: MOD refutes alleged travel restrictions for foreigners

PRESS RELEASE (05/13) JOINT OPERATIONS HEADQUARTERS - 28 DECEMBER 2005 AT 1730 HRS

Ministry of Defense (MoD) drew its attention to certain media reports that attributed to travel restrictions allegedly placed on foreign nationals working for various Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in the north & east of the country.

MoD categorically denies having placed any such travel restrictions for foreigners who have been accredited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and are working in the north and east in cleared or un-cleared areas.

It is regretted that certain media are deliberately trying to create embarrassment by distoring and misinterpreting facts related to their travel to un-cleared areas. All those who want assistance in this connection are requested to contact the MoD for any clarifications.
