USA: NATO response force continues relief effort

So far, twenty-two Euro Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC) nations have communicated their offers of assistance to the Euro Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Cell (EADRCC) in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. (These include Austria, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Finland, Georgia, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russian Federation, Slovak Republic, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and Ukraine)

Meanwhile, a further 16 EAPC nations have informed the EADRCC about their offers of assistance through the European Union (EU). (Albania, Armenia, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Portugal, Slovenia and United Kingdom)

Ramstein Air Base, Germany serves as a strategic air hub for onward transportation of US accepted donations. Donating countries that are closest to Ramstein were requested to move their donations by road to Ramstein with their own resources (Austria, Finland and Slovak Republic). Other countries such as Czech Republic, Denmark, Greece, Norway and Romania used NRF tactical airlift to move relief goods to Ramstein. All cargo consolidation from European donating nations was completed on 19 September 05.

The fourth cargo flight (B-707) took place on 19 September with 8 tons of donations from Finland.

Ukraine donated strategic airlift to move cargo from Europe to the United States on an AN-124 cargo flight date with 86 tonnes of donations from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Romania. Canada also donated strategic airlift with a CC-150 that moved 11 tonnes of donations from Norway.

Altogether 38 EAPC nations have offered assistance to the US. Offers from 11 EAPC nations (Austria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Luxembourg, Norway, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia and Ukraine) were accepted by US authorities, including the donation of air-lift by Ukraine and Canada; 9 of the 11 nations made use of the NATO air-bridge, 1 nation (Luxembourg) decided to have their donation transported commercially.
