Palestine calls for emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers

CAIRO, July 4 (KUNA) -- Palestine called on Tuesday for an emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers and the formation of a committee to face the current crisis caused by Israel.
In a press statement after meeting Arab League Secretary-General Amre Moussa, Palestinian envoy Nabil Sha'ath said Israel's ongoing aggression requires unifying Arab efforts under the league's supervision.

On his part, Moussa noted that all funds requested by Palestinians have been transferred to them 10 days ago, adding that Israel was following illegal tactics that require going back to the peace process to implement overall peace and end the current unrest.

While saying that the UN Security-Council (UNSC) was not doing much to help Palestinians and this matter needs to be settled once and for all to avoid reoccurrence, he expressed support for an exchange of prisoners.

As for holding an Arab summit, Moussa said Arab leaders will meet when the time is right, but a summit cannot be held whenever a development takes place and ongoing deliberations are discussing how to mobilize joint Arab efforts.

In another development, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) presented emergency aid worth 2 million UAE Dirhams (AED).

UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of UAE Red Crescent Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nuhayyan ordered the emergency aid that contains food and medical supplements.

The aid will be delivered through the Emirates friendship society in Gaza Strip. One USD equals AED 3.66. (end) mfm.
