OPT: Kidney dialysis supplies and medications to MoH hospitals

Today, Wednesday, 17 May 2006 CARE International/ Emergency Medical Assistance Program -- Phase 3 (funded by USAID) will mark the distribution of kidney dialysis supplies and medications to 12 Ministry of Health Hospitals in the West Bank and Gaza.
CARE/ EMAP III conducted an assessment of the situation of supplies and medicines required to provide dialysis services at the Ministry of Health Hospitals, whereby the following was identified:

In total, there are 67 machines in the West Bank, and 53 machines in Gaza. Total number of patients is 391 and 292 in the West Bank and Gaza respectively.

Number of sessions/ month is 4479 and 2840 in the West Bank and Gaza respectively. The expected time for complete out-stock of supplies at the hospitals ranges between 2 days to 2 weeks.

The hospitals visited were the following:

West Bank Hospitals:

1. Al Watani Hospital - Nablus, 2. Khalil Suleiman Hospital -- Jenin, 3. Darweesh Nazzal Hospital -- Qalqilya, 4. Thabet Thabet Hospital -- Tulkarem, 5. Ramallah Government Hospital -- Ramallah, 6. Jericho Government Hospital -- Jericho, 7. Beit Jala Government Hospital -- Beit Jala, and 8. Alia Government Hospital -- Hebron.

Gaza Hospitals:

9. Al Shifa Hospital -- Gaza City, 10. Shohada Al Aqsa Hospital -- Deir Al Balah,

11. Nasser Hospital -- Khan Younis, and 12. Al Najjar Hospital -- Rafah.

Supplies and medications were procured immediately for the benefit of the 12 hospitals for duration of 3 months, for the value of US$ 425, 086. This constitutes the first order of an allocated budget of US$ 800,000.

The supplies and medications to be delivered today, Wednesday, 17 May 2006 to Gaza and the north of the West Bank amount to $277,225.
