Kenya signs host country agreement with the Desert Locust Control Organisation

Kenya signed a host country agreement with the Desert Locust Control Organisation for Eastern Africa today September 10th. The Desert Locust Control Organisation is a Regional Pest and Vector Management Organisation established under the International Convention signed in Addis Ababa in October 1962. Kenya is a founder member of the organisation and the first to sign host country agreement with the organisation. The main objective of the organisation is to promote effective control of desert locusts in the region.

In February 1977, the Government of Kenya conferred on the Organisation privileges and immunities provide for under chapter 179 Laws of Kenya vide Legal Notice No. 58 dated 26th February, 1977. The conclusion of this host agreement is to facilitate the administration of the stated privileges and immunities provided to the Organisation which are similar to those accorded to other UN Agencies.
