‘The Environmental Emergencies Section is a project on environmental emergencies carried out by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). It brings international assistance to countries facing various environmental emergencies. It has been mandated to improve the international response to environmental emergencies by acting as a broker between affected and donating countries, a clearing house for information and a switchboard for disaster notification and alert. It is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.’
