A Sub-Working Group (SWG) on Gender and Humanitarian Assistance was established by the IASC-WG in November 1998. This group had its first meeting in January 1999. It is co-chaired by WFP and UNICEF, with the participation of FAO, OCHA, OHCHR, UNHCR, UNDP, IOM, UNFPA, ICRC, IFRC, SCHR, WHO, ICVA, and InterAction. In May 1999, the IASC endorsed the “Policy Statement on Mainstreaming Gender into Humanitarian Response” and the related background document. This Resource Kit is intended to help IASC members, and others, to implement the policy.
